Ladysmith
Family-Owned, Personalized Hearing Care for Ladysmith, BC
Originally Oyster Harbour, Ladysmith, BC, developed around shipping wharves that were built to load coal at Oyster Harbour (now Ladysmith Harbour) from the mine at Extension, near Nanaimo. Ladysmith experienced significant unrest and violence during the Vancouver Island coal miners' strike of 1912–1914, which led to the first deployment of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada in the summer of 1912.
Playing host to the Syfy original TV series Resident Alien, filmed within the town of Ladysmith, has led to the employment of many of the town's residents as background performers. Primarily a quiet residential community, opportunities for recreation include the Holland Creek Hiking Trail, Transfer Beach Park, and the Ladysmith Community Arena (home to the Ladysmith Maritime Society).
