If you’re reading this, maybe you’ve been asking yourself, “Should I get my hearing tested in my 60s?”
Lots of us think that hearing loss is associated with an older age bracket of early 70s. This conclusion makes sense; age-related hearing loss is among the most common forms of hearing loss, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only one.
We’ve seen plenty of younger people come to visit us to address concerns about their hearing. Noise exposure and the volume of the world around us is increasing – remember those loud concerts you went to back in the day and came home with ringing ears?
Hearing loss challenges can become prevalent to anyone, regardless of age. Thankfully, there’s plenty of solutions for hearing loss challenges that all begin with regular, professional hearing care.
Each year, we get our teeth cleaned, our eyesight tested and our physical health checked – but when was your last hearing test?
With the help of a comprehensive hearing assessment, you can reclaim your hearing and start listening to the world around you with clear ears and peace of mind. Even just one hearing test can make a world of difference once you understand what level of hearing you’re working with each day.
What Happens during a Hearing Assessment?
Nanaimo Hearing Clinic’s comprehensive hearing assessments consist of a few different steps.
When you come in to visit us, we’ll start by talking a little bit about you and any possible causes for your hearing loss challenge – this can include genetic disposition through family history, medical conditions, medication reactions and infections, which we’ll check for by thoroughly examining your ears.
The hearing test itself will take an hour to complete and is entirely painless. You wear a pair of headphones and listen for various beeps which will help us understand what range of hearing you’re working with.
You’ll receive your results on the same day, and we’re happy to talk through the next steps with you. We’ll provide recommendations and hearing prescriptions in plain English – no technical jargon to try and interpret here.
Whether you wanted a baseline of your hearing for future reference or you’re looking into alleviating your hearing loss, we’re here to help, every step of the way.
Of course, we understand why some people hesitate to get their hearing tested. What if they need hearing aids? There have been many negative associations with hearing aids over the years, mostly linked to bad connotations surrounding aging and getting older.
However, we view hearing loss—and hearing aids—as a sign of a healthy, well-lived life. Loud noise exposure is natural and happens to all of us. Concerts blasting, clubs bumping, restaurants and full dinner tables full of laughter and chatter…
Hearing loss is nothing to be ashamed of. By remedying your hearing loss challenge, you’ll regain so much more than just better hearing – you’ll see benefits to your memory, your balance and your overall health. There are far more pros than cons!
So, how do you go about getting a hearing test? Luckily for you, you’re in the right place.
